Those who seek wealth or abundance in fishing pray to Njord as friend to sailors and seamen. A Vanir deity, he is the father of Frey and Freya. Njord married the female giant Skadi while among the Aesir, though they later separated. As a deity of the mountains, she was uncomfortable with the coastlines and the bustle of shipbuilding around his Halls. Equally he was uncomfortable with the cold and solitude of her mountains, so they could never agree on where to live. Their movement between homes caused the seasons.
