The Vanir are the older of the two branches of the dominant pantheon of Ysgard and as they were more fertility-gods than warrior-gods the Aesir gained ascendancy over them when conflict turned to war. Those that remained in Vanaheim play little, if any, part in the lives of those on Ysgard but, as part of the peace, there was an exchange of gods and goddesses between the two branches and Njord and his twin children Frey and Freya are more active than their brethren.
